Areas of Practice
Insurance Law
We advise and represent
clients in insurance related matters including accident
and disability, commercial insurance, general liability
insurance, bad faith, errors and omissions, insurance coverage
issues, insurance legislation, insurance litigation, professional
indemnity, property damage and subrogation matters.
Personal Injury
We commonly act in
the defence of various types of personal injury tort claims,
most notably in the area of motor vehicle accident litigation.
In that regard, we represent insurers at the Financial
Services Commission and in subsequent proceedings commenced
in the Superior Court of Justice.
Occupier's Liability
Our lawyers are
frequently retained to act as counsel in cases where the
Occupier's Liability Act has been invoked, in order to
determine whether liability may exist. These cases may
involve accidents that occur in retail shopping centres,
private homes or construction sites.
Product Liability
Our lawyers are
routinely retained to represent insurers in the defence
of product liability claims. These actions may involve
property damage, as well as personal injury matters.
Family Law
Louise Morin focuses on
litigation and mediation in divorce and separation proceedings
including child and spousal support claims, property division,
and custody & access disputes, and in the negotiation
of domestic contracts.
Medical Malpractice
We provide opinions
to potential plaintiffs in cases of medical malpractice,
and will advise those affected as to whether the services
provided by a physician may have fallen below the appropriate
standard of care.
Government Relations
David Young and
Courtney Leyland offer extensive services that include
strategic communications, crisis management, policy development
and government relations.
Appellate Advocacy
We have substantial
experience in arguing appellate cases before provincial
appellate courts, as well as in the Supreme Court of Canada.
The experience of our lawyers has resulted in successful
appellate decisions and innovative changes to our law.
